Mum defends 16 year old daughter after she got suspended from school for wearing natural hair

16 year old Tayjha Deleveaux , a student at the CR Walker Senior High School in the Bahamas, was sent to the principal’s office and later suspended for rocking her natural hair. The principal said she was trying to clamp down on students wearing their hair in a way that looks like it would not have been combed for days. Tayjha's mother got upset and posted her daughter’s picture on Facebook with a message in defence of her hair, saying she was “standing up against foolishness”.  Read what she wrote after the cut...

The country’s ministry of education has now responded in a Facebook post :
“We are fully cognisant of the sensitivity of this matter and are confident that after review with the school administrator, the school board and the individuals involved, the matter will be amicably resolved,” the ministry wrote.

The principle is a riscist, how can you send a girl with natural hair back home? Her hair was created that way so you should accept her the way she is

They had better resolve this matter as fast as they can, or they are gonna get a thousand more suspensions to handle as most black girls would certainly try to show their support for their sister by making their hair even look worse.

Unknown said...

Like seriously....instead they should face serious matter like bullying, school shooting it's how a teenage girl looks.... smh

Normally sha, when you are in primary or secondary school, you are not supposed to dress your hair as if you are going to a disco party even if it's your natural hair. Either pack it well or plait it. To be honest, the hair looks like she is going for a fashion show. Even if it doesnt affect her brain, she should be modest in her dressing. However, it is not enough for the school to suspend her. That was a very harsh decision. At least give her first and second warning before suspending her but if it is part of the school's policy and the child is aware of the policy and still kept her hair like that, then of course the school should not be blamed. This is my objective candid opinion.
