'FG to handover 23,000 ghost workers and banks that connived with them to EFCC' - Finance Minister, Adeosun

Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun told Senate Committee on Finance that the 23,000 ghost workers discovered in the Federal Civil Service would be handed over to EFCC.

Adeosun, who made the revelation when she appeared before the committee, said banks that connived with the workers to pad the Federal government payroll are also going to be prosecuted. "We will not only sack them, we will ensure the recovery of the money they have been collecting over the years from the Federal government." she said.

What is the kwa in it?u high?

This may not sound so big because we all agree civil servants are not paid that much anyway. well let me put it in context. These 23,000 ghost positions wont be level 8(which is starter level for graduates), so lets assume each persons salary is a mere 150,000 monthly. multiply that by 23,000 and you have 3.45 BILLION naira paid MONTHLY to non-existent people. That's 41.4 BILLION in year. That money can finish Lagos-Ibadan and East west road. in fact that money can work wonders in Nigeria. God alone knows how long these ghost names have been there

lolllll pls how do u handover ghost workers? nigerians are soooooo dumb and gullible ughh

This money we are talking about is like 3.5 Billion monthly (multiplying 23,000 by the average civil servant salary) which is about 40 billion annually. That is almost half the budget of many states, and almost equal to the entire ekiti state 2016 budget which is 67 billion. And some people call it witch hunting. Abeg Sai baba continue with the witch hunting

Hmmmm..sombodu said civil servants from fed civil service commission r being paid 150k..in der wildest dreams..lemme tel u d truth..if PMB doesn't not harmonise d salaries of all federal workers even if he like let him hold d salaries n cue civil servant up n gv to dem by hand dey wl devise a means of stealing..wat dey tak home is less dan 100k for a graduate..on level 8..while dose in cbn, nnpc, firs, ncc etc wt same certificate take above hundred n pad it up wt allownances..civil servant r d closest pple to d politicians dey wl always open anoda way of stealing..d best thing is to mk d pay d same across board..

Its a welcome development. But how can someone worker be arrested? Except of course, its those that employee of the FG that duplicate their names and are receiving salaries. In this regards, its possible to get those behind the ghost workers arrested and handed over to the EFCC. So, wetin concern bank for their? The FG transfer money to the bank and the bank in turn deposit this money into individual accounts. How will the bank be held liable for this?
