Alaguntan Community in Alimosho LGA pulled out of 3-month black out as MTN Foundation donated a 500KVA Transformer

Business owners and residents within Alaguntan Community in Alimosho Local Government Area of Iyana Ipaja have their hopes restored today when the MTN Foundation commissioned a 500kva transformer donated to the community few weeks ago. The reprieve came after a 3-month black out experienced within the community.

Thanks to Olanrewaju Ogundeji a resident in the community who saw the need for a transformer to boost the residents’ welfare and businesses. He therefore nominated the community for a transformer under the MTN Foundation’s What Can We Do Together campaign which was launched last year. Residents in the community, who are majorly small business owners, petty traders and artisans, couldn’t contain their joy and relief as they showered praises on the Foundation.

They narrated that their businesses had hit the rock since there was no power supply for over three months, up to the point that some businesses were nearing pack up.

In attendance was the Executive Secretary of Agbado Oke Odo Local Government Development Area (LCDA), Engr. D.O Famuyiwa in company of members of the Community Development Association.

On behalf of the community, the Community Development Association Chairman, Dr. John Adegoke said the transformer came at a time when total black out permeated the entire community for over three months. He described the Foundation’s donation as a peg in a round hole.

Executive Secretary of the MTN Foundation, Ms. Nonny Ugboma, who handed over the transformer to the community leadership, said it was indeed a fantastic opportunity for the Foundation to contribute to the well-being of the residents, and advertently restoring businesses in the community to a good footing. She noted that the community is one out of the twenty beneficiaries of 500kva transformers across the country.

The What Can We Do Together campaign was launched last year with the objective of reaching out to more Nigerians and allowing them to nominate any community of their choice to benefit from the provision of school furniture, boreholes, transformers and donations to orphanage homes. 200 communities across the country have so far benefitted from these laudable projects.
