All the ministers will get portfolios - Shehu Garba

Senior Special Assistant to President Buhari on Media and Publicity, Shehu Garba says that contrary to what is being interpreted from President Buhari's chat with Channels TV in India last week, all the 36 ministers recently screened by the senate will get portfolios but not all of them will oversee a ministry. In an interview with Daily Trust, Shehu said
“You know we have a structure of government in place in this country whereby there are substantive ministers and ministers of state. What the president meant (in the interview granted) was that not all the ministers in his cabinet will have the full control of the ministries.
You know it is not possible to have the number of ministries more than the number of ministers. Even former President Goodluck Jonathan had 28 ministries and 42 ministers. So, what the president meant was that some of his cabinet members would be ministers of state.”
Asked whether this implies that all the ministers will have portfolios, Shehu answered in the affirmative, saying:
“Yes, that is what it means. But not all of them (the ministers) will have the full command of the ministries”.
DDuring the interview which was aired on October 30th, President Buhari said
"There used to be 42 ministers. I I think we will be lucky if we can have half of that now because we cannot afford it. Others may not be substantive ministers but they will sit in the cabinet because that is what the constitution says and we cannot operate outside the constitution".

  8. I don't understand why this president finds it difficult to engage with the Nigerian people. each time he travels, he makes these very serious policy statements outside, and we all hear about it for the first time courtesy of his foreign trip.

and then when he returns his press team start scrambling around (unsuccessfully) to 'çourse correct'.

pls what's the difference between what the president said in India and what shehu garba is now saying???

  10. Shehu, Nigerians are tired of this Kind of merigorounding of Baba-Go-slow. We want a government that is working not the one that stands still as President Buhari is doing. It took him 5 months to chose Ministers and its taking another 5 months to assign portfolio to them. President will not win re-election, and he has only 48 months to do his wonders. He has spent 6 months blaming Goodluck Jonathan and managed to pick Ministers, he has 42 months remaining. I am sure he will not make any impact in this country and that will be the burial of APC and Tinubu. My candid advice to him is to forget what is past and look forward to the future that this country has and show us what he wants to do. Taa bu gbo!!!

  11. This APC government is spending too much time talking and magnifying little or close to nothing done so far in 6 months.. Talk is cheap, action speaks louder than words! Work make we dey see results not complaints, blames, meetings, seminars, conferences and press statements..
