New video shows how Nigerian student was kicked & beaten in jail leading to his death (photos)

22yr old Nigerian student Matthew Ajibade, (pictured right) died in police custody after he was kicked and beaten by police during a booking process where he was said to be combative and fought back. (read previous story here). And last week, during a trial of the case, shocking footage taken inside the Georgia jail where Matthew was booked showed him being kicked and punched in the head during the fight with police officer. He was left alone in restraints for an hour-and-a-half after the violence, at which point he was found dead. See the photos after the cut...

Ajibade was arrested on domestic violence charges on New Years day 2015 when the incident happened. In the video, Ajibade could be seen arguing with the police officers who call for back off. One officer tried to tackle him to the ground and Ajibade resisted. As she tried to taser him, Ajibade grabbed the taser and that was when another officer attacked him. The officer is seen in the video kicking the back of Ajibade's head at which point he stopped resisting. The police officer then used the taser on the Nigerian student and then handcuffed him. He was left there for an hour and a half and when they went back to check on him, he was found dead.

The three former jail employees, who battled with him are now in trial charged over his death. They were charged for policy and procedure violations that prosecutors say contributed to Ajibade's death.

    1. I don't think its a matter of ego but of ptide . pride that every human should have. You should treat everyone like a human being. If you don't have anything that you would sacrifice your life....that's your own cup of tea. Don't reduce someones value system to ego. We all know white Americans do not like to see the strength of a black man. Why do you think men and women are fighting for in Syria? Ego?

  37. Good. They should be brought to justice. The guy is a small boy for christ sake. How can u use all your power on a small fragile boy? They did not even suspect that the boy may have mental disorder. The police involved should be sacked. Smtchew

  38. I am not taking sides, but the sooner we blacks starts respecting ourselves the better.... It's usually one black brother or the other... Dude we can never be white, go to school, get a job and stay the hell outta trouble

  39. If this video didn't come out, people would have bashed him that he was a trouble maker. In the same light, Linda you wrote about my friend stealing while on vacation. She was acquitted and has come back to hateful messages and comments on her Facebook. She is suffering from all you bloggers profit. It's soooo not fair. Not fair especially since she was acquitted.

  45. Amrican and Britain are the one's accusing countries of human right abuses, yet police brutalities on citizens in their countries (especially in USA) are not tamed human right abuses. A documentary I saw some weeks maintaind that a black person is murdered every 31 mins in the USA and yet USA is not found in the human right abuses watch list. It's only in Nigeria that they sing like birds when cases like Mathews above is on front page. Shame on them. I hope the parents of Mathew gets justice.

  47. Dint u guys hear "bipolar disorder"? Ajibade was diagnosed with bipolar disorder three years ago and was having a medical emergency at the time of his arrest and confinement... m sure the police dint pay attention to all dat b4 attacking him I pray they pay for his death.

  48. It's unfortunate that he lost his life but he shouldn't have resisted arrest. Georgia isn't Nigeria where you resist arrest and possibly beat up the police and yell at them 'do you know who I am..? Do you know who father is?
