22 churches shut down over noisy worship in Lagos

22 churches have been shut down for noisy worship in Lagos state. The head of the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency, Adebola Shabi, who disclosed this yesterday August 27th, said the agency shut down the churches following a series of complaints of disturbance by residents of the area where the churches are located.

"On my phone alone, I get 20 SMS on a daily basis. In the next five years, if there is no stringent policy on the siting of religious houses, there will be problem. With the enforcement today, we would have sealed about 55 premises because the last enforcement we carried out, we shut 33 premises. I gave approval for closure of 22 premises today, making 55"
Neighbours of one church, Jesus Our Lord Divine Catholic Prayer Ministry, said they were constantly disturbed by a congregation of mainly pregnant women, young mothers and their children. Shabi said the churches would be allowed to reopen after paying fines starting from N50,000.

    1. Is it not a shameful thing to hear the LASEPA boss say that "the churches will reopen after paying fines starting from #50000?" What then becomes of the complaints of the neighbors of these churches? Or was it those complaints that opened the eyes of the Agency to see the areas where money can be made for the government? So pathetic.

  2. They should actually make a law that all place of worship "Christian or moslem" should be entirely sound proof.

  45. The former Aviation Minister Mrs.Stella Oduah was accused of buying two BMW bullet-proof cars at $1.6 million about N280 Million, while former Lagos State Governor Babatunde Fashola bought the same bullet-proof cars at N650 Million, let Fashola tell the Nigerians and the whole world how is own is higher.

The day another political party will take over Lagos State that whole world will see the canker-worm,evils and atrocities that APC as a party has committed in Lagos with the assistance of Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Only God will save us from all these evil political leaders.

  47. If Buhari is serious about fighting corruption, the first will be for him to remove all oil blocks from any individual.Nigeria is the only country where thieves are allocated the country’s natural resources in the name of oil blocks. If anything like oil block must exist, then this should be given to the states so each state will use the proceeds to develop that particular state. This will ensure that the dividends are enjoyed by all Nigerians.

  48. The problem is that they mount there speakers out making to cause noise everywhere, if there speakers cld be controlled I tink d noise will lesser... Meanwhile collecting money for fine and reopening will do more harm dan good... Why don't they tell them to re position there speakers

  49. Shame on the idiot called Shabi!!!!

The biggest noise-makers are the mosques!!

But can't find that the FOOL went after any mosque!!!!

And Christians are always laid back!!!

In fact watch out for the idiots among them playing defenders and "justifiers" of this assault on the Church!!!

And soon they would live to pay dearly for watching idly by!

If Shabi is an Idiot, so-called Christians are bastards for doing nothing!

  62. About time... Nothing is more disorienting than a bunch of people deliberately inconveniencing everyone around with music and 'prayer' so loud even heaven may want non of it. When the holy book says "God is not a God of confusion" it makes no exemptions and brooks no excuses: not loud singing, violent 'in-spirit' demands or unnecessarily rowdy prayer.
