A LIB reader tells his story. Read below..
"I was driving on the lekki express at about 10pm,
i had just driven passed the second round about, the road was free up
until about half way through to the next round about. I decided to wind
the windows down to save gas as its scarce.
My battery was running low on my phone (P9981) so I grabbed my power bank to charge it. A
few minutes later, some guy suddenly came at my side of the car and
said something I didnt quite hear and immediately shouted "wetin?",
leaning sideways incase he became aggressive but he hurriedly walked
away, then I heard something move from the front passenger side, I
looked and saw some else running away, then it occured to me what had
jus happened, f@#* my phone!
(i was charging it and left it on the seat
with the power bank, silly idea) i quickly searched the seat and lo and
behold, my phone was still there. The fool had taken my power bank and
usb wire instead. You see, the power bank looks like an iphone, slick,
black gloss infront and chrome behind. I got alot of compliments for it.
That must have deceived him.
People around saw that someone stretched into my car and ran with
something and no one showed any sign of empathy or alerted me of the
theft as i was skilflully distracted by the other guy.
Anyway,
as i drove on, with my windows "over up", i started reflecting on how
lucky i was and then i became increasingly upset that i fell for that
cheap trick. I made up my mind and turned back when i got to the 3 round
about. I had a feeling that by then, they would have realised it wasnt a
phone. As i apprached the exact spot where i was robbed, on the other
lane, i saw the boy who distracted with about 8other boys looking on for
their next victim (i assumed). Then i wound down and shouted, "ona dey
plan another robbery abi, you think say ona sharp abi, you no see my
phone carry, thiefffff, oleeeee!!!!"
They turned around and
one of the boys asks, "who rob you?" and i pointed at the boy, he
immediately denied it, saying he wasnt a thief but the other boys who
apparently didnt know him, were street hawkers, attempted to grab him
and then he ran, manoeuving between cars in that traffic. I immediately
hit the gas, to see if i could intercept him. By the time i made it back
to the other lane, they had caught up with him, he attempted to scale
the wired fence LCC installed but his foot got tangled in the fence, he
was dragged down and pounced on him heavily. I got down, popped my
trunk, took out the jack winder and introduced it to his back (which i
regret now). All the while he kept denying it but couldnt give a good
reason for being on the road.
Passers by also had their share,
some people said they had been robbing people in traffic for about
2weeks straight, tonight was for the owners.
I decided it was a
matter for the police & so i called the RRS at lekki ikoyi toll.
They were there in 10minutes. I explained what happened, he attempted to
deny it still, half way through his denial, he recieved two solid
policeman slap. One of them asked, "oga wetin make we do with this one
as we no fit prosecute am, normally, we go carry all these born throwey
go lagoon fire them" I said NO OH! That they should lock him up and
drill him till he produces all his accomplices. They bondled him in
handcuffs and took him away.
Surprisingly, they didnt ask for money but guess who did, the street hawkers...
My
narration is long but i need to detail you to be able to visualise the
whole drama. It felt good, who knows, he could have graduated to gun
point robbery
Im sure there are Libers who have had similar experiences, have you?

Tnk God your life was spared!!!
I have o,was even stabbed in Warri because on phone, that was last 2yrs thu. Criminals everywhere!
Ok
"LIB reader narrates **our** he....."??? Shame!!
Omg...lol...o my, what the heck
Nawaa...
I had a similar experience around ojota.....but as the guy was distracting me....my instinct told me to look the other way....you needed to see how fast I flung my charging fone under my car seat.....looks like there's nothing one can do about agbero and petty thieves in Lagos o....they have become part of the structure.
Wey ur power bank
Lucky you!
Ok, na so dem for shoot you if na real theif. And how's he sure he got the right person?
LOL
Yawn..leaving your glasses down when you are alone at night is not a smart move in ANY part of Lagos.
That boy better have been the one. Cause if thtqt guy was innocent them damn. Why would you even encourage jungle justice and brutality. Yea they stole but so what? Typical average thinking NIgerian
How dey stole d power bank was d most interesting... D story became tasteless after den...
* * * Linda's 1st Daughter * * *
One of them asked, "oga wetin make we do with this one as we no fit prosecute am, normally, we go carry all these born throwey go lagoon fire them". Police involved in jungle justice and present IG should look into that. The police that knows the car stealing during those hours and not patroll or deal with the issues are the Real Thieves. Mbok

Lol...u're not a good narrator!
He don try
Hmmmnnnn... LIBers and the attention seeking syndrome. All man dey formulate story for Linda to post.. Issorait, we have read your story. Check your phone, any bank alert?
Good for him..why will u regret hitting him? He deserves it.
Happy sunday
Interesting...
~album drops 8th June~
Nay I've nt and I don't pray for such.
Trust me, he will never confess even at gunpoint. I had a similar experience @ Obalende. I think they are under oath not to spill. The police can only detain him for 48 hrs max as there is no proof and u didnt take him to court. He will still end up doing gun - point robbery.
I feel sorry for him, I hope the policemen won't kill him o! Linda take note!
I feel sorry for him, I hope the policemen won't kill him o! Linda take note!
I had a good laff...... Evryday for the tief but one day for the owner..... Thelma iz my name
I support you.. Nigerians needs to start taking things seriously and punish people for their acts. It might be a power bank but its still a crime and he should be punished. Some people might curse you out because its a power bank but you did the right thing.
At least the police didn't ask for money. Change has come.
I hope you didn't break his spinal cord with the jack.....,,,
Oga your story was long and boring. *sweating*
Linda cogitate
Lol ave had similar experience o infant. I don't have a car nau Heheheh na inside danfo I sit jejely o when this Yeye guy jog cum meet the bus Wier I dey, by then I was looking for amebo on LIB, thinkin my mind wasn't their, stretched his hand to jack my phone.... as a oversabi Lagos babe wey I be I held on to it tightly I was not afraid becos am use to all dis petty robbers. Lol
Brave show... ! but can you take a minute to reflect if the chap wasn't really the culprit ? Cos you were distracted, and couldn't have recognised who pinched your power bank at that moment. Should have retrieved your power bank after forgetting your jack lift on his rear ribs. How sad.
I've been a victim of traffic robbery a few times but I just hope you weren't mistaken and punished an innocent boy for nothing.
Ode buruku ! You even quoted the police on social media. Your own don finish. Hope they didn't cram your vehicle number. Trouble dey sleep... yanga go wake am up. Na palaver you go get. I no envy you bro!
Hmm not sure if all that went down is the right thing to do o
All the beatings is enough to give him permanent sickness.Did u find the power bank on him? Calling the police was the right thing to do tho
OK
... Noted
Ok
....... ... noted
Jeeeeeez he got served Poverty no good oooo
But in all dis, u did't get ur power bank back. So I ask what if u were wrong? Dose police re foolish for not following d law.u beat up som one u did't see wat u accused him of. U said he ran out in a hurry nd d oda one said somtin in ur ear, which means u did't get d chance to see his face..mr u lucky say I nor dey dere u for slp cel. Linda pls stop posting nonsense bcos som fool wants u to. U're beta dan dis nd I Knw u're a law abiding citizen.
Hmmm...quite interesting
This story just upsets me to my stomach and has spoilt my sunday..mtcheew
Dis same thing happened to my Some times last year along dis very same road o....
This story defies logic.
OMG!!! Funny enough, I've had a similar experience while I was stuck in traffic... the same tactics used in drawing my attention away. My front windows were down cos the AC had an ish. One guy came up to my side and was talking incoherently... before I could say Jack Robinson, I literally saw my handbag which was on the floor of the passenger seat been lifted up in the air. And luckily for me, I had removed my BlackBerry Passport from my bag, as I was chatting with it earlier and placed it in an open compartment beneath the stereo. My wallet which had all my atm cards, driver's license, id card, money + my office fone in the bag was carted away. I was shell shocked at what had just happened to me. I alighted from the car and saw noone in sight. Passersby asked what happened and I said I had just been robbed and they were like, 'you don't wind down while driving ooo... at least, not completely down'. What an experience!!! Reported at the police station the next day and then went to the bank to block my cards.
Imagine when dem no go school
You are a fool, useless and jobless! if not, you would not have risked your life at such time over a power-bank! You irritate me!
Haba!..d beating, on top power bank?..well that serves him right, only God knows how many people he has done same to
Very gud. Am happy he was apprehended. Dem no won work bt dem won chop.
U lucky man... Dem rob u n u still gt mind turn ur car go d same spot.. Ahhhh una gt extra life?? Thnk ur star say no b real thief.. Let's b wise biko
Lol.
Luv the narration.
Some Sunday humour.
Hahahahahaha nice one there, if I was there I would ve borrowed him some thunderous slap from above. Dave
007 well done o!
sorry 'bt dt bro
I pity the robber. If he lives he will think twice before doing so again.
Thank God for ur life.bro
9ce one. I love ur bravery attempt
U did nt complete ur story, wer u able to recover ur power bank?tank God he was caught...bt being caught does nt guarantee he won't steal again, may God protect us.
Love your courage and glad he was arrested by the police. I Have had my own share of attack along cms bridge, immediately I spotted him den it was too late to wind down, I quietly hid my phone nd laptop under the seat. was so scared I pleaded with him to take money coz it seemed he had a gun. People are always scared to interfere which is wrong. It's better to alert the police when you witness a robbery. You might just save a life.
Praise the lord....the same boiz tried the tricks on me....but I learnt my lessons from d rough streets of Lagos, I always wind up above half....d SUV was too high for em, so I locked wen I heard a knock from d back driver side asking for a lift....my laptop and valuables are at d back. They carry out this operation with confidence, like they own d streets. They robbed d SUV close me as they didn't make it with me.
The gods are wise
Gab2shoessaysso
Good for him
Hmmmm
Hahahahaha..I really enjoyed the story:) you are a smart guy and a good story teller:)

Lol, serves dat lazy modafucka ryt. Bloody thief.
#*karlishah*
Bullshit, how do we know that it was not a innocent bystander was identified and arrested. LIB reader, do the right thing and check the suspect is giving his proper right to justice and you as a witness should attend court and submit a victim statement. I thought with the new broom of Buhari change which equtes to human rights and justice is what Nigeria is looking forward to.
Hmmmmmmm! The guy even dressed well o! He tucked his shirt into his trousers like better person o! Petty thief! Lol. The power bank really deceived him!
Tnk God he was caught,he should be dealt with, hungry thief.
Tnk God he was caught,he should be dealt with, hungry thief.
So many of us. Engr Emy
Aka akparala ya.
Wow! Guy u get mind o. Thank God he was a petty thief sha.

This is super story........
God bless u for ur bravery, see it pays to stand out and make a diff, see the oshi dey no even beat am enough
calling the police and beating him up like that wasnt called for. cos u aint even sure he is the guy who robbed u.
Everyday for the thief one day for the owner
Just pray d right person was d one apprehended. . .
We all scream "change", yet it's obvious we need that "change" even more. You caught up with him, "drilled" him, called the police who drilled him the more, and still asked them to take him away and "lock him up...and drill him". You assumed the role of the complainant, police and Judge! All for a power bank! We all carry a big baggage from the military Era. When is it going to dawn on the average Nigerian that no one- not even the police has any right to lay their hands on anybody? The mostly pedestrian contributors on this page will cheer your incongruous story, but be rest assured that there are several readers of this page that have a better IQ than you. Sorry about your power bank, but next time, don't play the judge and jury. Hand him over to the police, and don't tell them what to do to him. Come to think of it, did you say the police suggested shooting him? I'm lost for words. Nigeria, I hail thee. A very Big Banana Republic!
Nice 1
How r u sure he was d guy who robbed u
No proof, sir.
So if the man is dead from a beating due to street justice, and the Lagos state government is looking for the culprit, they should issue a subpoena to Linda to provide your email address so that they can assign you the portion of the beating that relates to your jack winder - like maybe a broken spine or something like that. Not to sanction stealing but some stories are best abbreviated. You just labeled yourself a potential murderer or accomplice and you just left bread crumbs to lead to you.
the worst is that people will just mind their business, were is our character of been one another's keeper? we must find it if we must survive as a people.I thank God for you
This guy funny bcus of power bank you turned around what if they had shot you. Na wa 4 sumpipu liva sha....... Linda make sure you post my comment ooooooo!
He might not actually be d one, dats jungle justice , u shld be arrested
I read this with glee and utmost satisfaction. Good riddance. I hope he dies in custody.
You get mind to go back abi....anyway its a good thing street justice didnt kill the guy.
Ɣε̲̣̣̣̥άн dts true, u beta praY its d rightful One d̶̲̥̅̊t ws been apprehended else u had gOten d cry of an innocent soul on U̶̲̥̅̊Å™ head...
You are an idiot, do you know if he is an armed robber, he desreved the way he was treated, u know how many people they have killed
U dint tell us
that you got you power bank back from him. What if he is not the one that robed you since u dint get you power bank from him
This right here is a problem.
Thoughts like this are prime reasons for stagnancy in a lot of human lives.
This same thing happened to me 2012 at begger under bridge at abuja. exactly as narrated by the LIB reader except in my case I didn't catch up with the thieves. It was my welcome to abuja eye opener. Is well
Am sure the pictures are evidential enough.. But since hate and disbelieve has consumed you so much you can't even believe anything anymore... Smh
Hey blunt.. U need some blunts .. Go get it ..
Well I just hoped u pointed the right guy out. People have spent more than 2 decades in prison, some have even lost their lives for a crime they did not commit all because of wrongful accusation either knowingly or other wise...think about the Aluu 4. May their souls continue to rest in peace
@anon 3:26, what makes Blunt an idiot? U must be one of those ppl that burn so-called criminals alive. Wicked heart.
God bless u. @ least we still have ppl that think here.

Exactly
God bless you. I wish I had such opportunity. As a corper posted to Lag. I was robbed ( similar case) I suspected the cab. Driver because he was making calls thruout de journey as I no understand Yoruba. Mine was broad day light in Oshodi traffic. I cried my eyes out that day. People watched as those silly guys left with my bag n new phone I just bought to take pictures in camp. The shocking part is I got home, begged for cash to pay de cab guy who nothing was collected from him and he had de guts to tell me he doesn't have change!!!!!
I was an original Lagos JJC
1) Going back was a very silly move and NO ONE should be advised to do that! You are blessed that you didnt get attacked or killed when you did that!
2) Using the jack winder on the person's back wasnt right. You already had him stopped, what if you had paralyzed him by doing that??? Yes, you easily could have done that! All because of a phone charger, no matter how stylish it is!
3) Its 10pm in Lagos, and you are winding down windows, and slowing down to charge phone. Your focus should have been on getting home.
4) Have you considered setting up some kind of rehabilitation groups for youths? We all have our parts to play. What you did, while it may have given you personal satisfaction, did absolutely NOTHING for you, the guy (if he really was the thief) and the community. This is what our problem is in society, we are missing the point. Attack the problem at the roots. How about serving as a mentor? In Yankee they have big brother/big sister programs for this reason.
Just pray the police didnt kill him, all for this your almighty power bank.
Not sure whether to get annoyed at you for sending this story or Linda for posting this, when there are more impressive heroic acts going on in Naija on a daily basis.
Pray you don't ever get caught sleeping on a bicycle. Cos you might not be able to stomach it. Silly. My problem with most liners or whatever they call them is that most of these kids don't know what's up. They just come here and waste mbs instead of reading their books. Next they be commenting without using their brains.
they have watched too much of Will Smith's movie, Focus. Na Naija we dey o
you are a bastard to encourage jungle justice. am sure u wud have been the one with the wood hitting those poor Aluu four boys.. bastard instead of u to thank God dat notin serious was taken from you.. I DONT CARE ABT ANY STUPID STORY, IF YOU ENCOURAGE JUNGLE JUSTICE OF ANY FORM YOU ARE EVIL AND WICKED.. BASTARD
I had a similar experience at Jakande roundabout. One came to my side and punched me hard in the face while the other took my phone from d passengers side. Drivers of other cars just looked on, some laughed, some were like "hope say the tin Wey dem carry no too get value"
What kind of wicked story is this? What if u got the wrong guy? What if the police tortures him to death? You got ur pound of flesh why leave him in the hands if blood thirsty police men? This story no just gel abeg..
On point! U deserve a hug
I was expecting you to tell us he eventually admitted he took your cheap power bank. If you have a conscience you'll go make sure that guy is set free because I have a strong feeling he's innocent. Better lose a power bank and feel foolish than to destroy a youngman's life just Becuase he's hopeless and have no reason for being on the street.
The ones who helped you catch and beat him might just be the thieves you are looking for.. Be wise and don't make a bigger mistake. #whistlingandwalkingaway
Dear,u are too Pretty to be pouring out expletives.
Leave the Dirty job for 'Z'.
Pls look bfor u leap
If you have been robbed in traffic u will know those boys deserve to be shot....do u know aw many people they have shot at and killed???....yet other drivers just look away...so sad....if only someone screams oleee and others join in.......it will reduce....my colleagues husband was shot at in the neck region...he was just lucky the location wasn't delicate ...they are real born throways...they shouldn't cause pain to innocent law abiding citizens....dere are lots of menial jobs out there for people who didn't go to sch...they should manage it....or they go to sch and upgrade themselves instead of looking for good life at the expense of others
And again..wy did he run if he was innocent.....d other street hawkers clearly didn't know him
A number of things struck me here
1. No one leaves windows open in traffic and put mobile phone ( or valuables) on the seat.
2. It is his words against the chap that was caught. The so called charger was not found on him. Nothing was mentioned to have been found on him. This chap may just be guilty of looking like the guy who robbed him.
3. He hit him with a jack winder......wtf. for real? That is assault on its own.
Your story doesn’t make sense to me, cos it sound stupid! Who you be for south to return back to the spot u were robbed and started stressing either innocent person or not, what if other guys at that hour was part of the gang what would you think would happen to you? be wise my dear even when you notice and be sure that it was the power bank he took you still have mine to follow up! Be wise before you regret it in the otherside (grave)...
it happened to us in wuse market in Abuja a few years back. luckily someone alerted my brother who was driving and he quickly jumped down, caught the guy and retrieved the phone. we were just relieved he got the phone back. vengeance is for God.
Everyday is for the thief, one day is for the owner.
