Ebola: Female doctor tests positive in Port Harcourt

A female doctor who was on admission at the Green Hart hospital where late Port Harcourt doctor, Iyke Enemoah, was treated after he got infected with the deadly virus by an ECOWAS official, has tested positive to Ebola.

Minister of Health, Prof Onyebuchi Chukwu revealed this today September 1st during a meeting of the National Emergency Council on Ebola outbreak in Nigeria. Continue...

Speaking with all Commissioners for Health in Nigeria, Prof. Chukwu said the doctor who tested positive to Ebola is now being treated at the Ebola isolation ward in Rivers state.

This recent confirmation brings to three the number of confirmed Ebola cases in Rivers state; the index case which is the ECOWAS official, Oluibukun Koye; the late Dr Iyke Enemoah who died on Friday August 22nd and the recently diagnosed female doctor.

Prof Chukwu said more cases of the Ebola Virus Disease were still being expected in Rivers state.

  19. Hmm.. what negligence and an irrational attitude can cause. In my opinion the diplomat should be prosecuted, it would instil cooperation in naturally stubborn Nigerians and help in combating/containing this epidemic effectively.

  29. I think some infected individuals are spreading Ebola Virus deliberately.
The guy who carried the Ebola virus to ph had succeeded.
Sorry, for i blame the dead doctor who was treating him.
    What was he thinking?
He is more the pharmacists and laboratory scientists?
He is only but a doctor and not a scientist.
It is only from laboratory where the solution of Ebola Virus would come from or God help us.
    I love Nigerians.
    Quarantine must be taken seriously.

  39. mehn, this dead doctor didn't try at all. The least he could do was to tell them the truth about his plight so they could protect themselves. Even after he fell ill, he would have at least spoken up, to save odas from being infected. cos from the story different hospitals rejected him before this last hospital had pity on him, still thinking it was malaria. Now everyone is at risk cos of his folly.. his family, his own hospital and now this kind hospital and doctor. Unless he was bewitched, I cant believe a doc would do this.

  60. The deceased doctors wife and her sister( both doctors themselves) are under quarantine so this confirmed case must be one of them. The sister went to console her sibling when the latter's husband died. I just pity Nigerian doctors, they are paid peanuts yet they are exposed to all sorts. While the stupid lawmakers collect huge sums monthly, they cannot even increase the pay of professionals.
