Video: President Jonathan commissions 1,100 buses

President Jonathan also this afternoon in Abuja commissioned 1,100 interstate diesel buses, to, according to him, help cushion the effect of the subsidy removal.

How 1,100 buses will solve the fuel hike problem that's affecting 160 million Nigerians is beyond me

Is subsidy removal only going to affect the transportation sector? What happens to the market (price of food stuffs, and all others), inflation control?. I think all these need to be addressed before we embark on the almighty subsidy removal.

It's a patriotic decision the government took since last year. It's for the long term interest of the country.

The President Goodluck Jonathan should be commended, not constantly cast in bad light or crucified.

Proposed strike without PHCN & Petroleum distribution unions is bound to fail. NLC & TUC should have a rethink if the above mentioned unions are not involved. the success or failure of strike centres around these 2 unions.

Y? Becos everything is connected to power. Majority of Nigerians will always find a way to continue to carry on economic activities & those who choose to join the strike may find themselves shortchanged & would therefore abandon the struggle. Strike ends and therefore fails. Hold those 2 unions & c whether all wont be affected. Even Jonathan, abi na im piss he wan take power the buses.

I give this advise becos if the srike fails, Nigerians are finished and Jonathan & his cabinet plus any other govt beneficiary SHALL never fear nor respect the Nigerian people. If the strike goes on as planned, there SHALL be no going back until we have achieved set out objectives which goes beyond fuel subsidy restoration and includes a clear plan to drastically reduce govt spending, renewed fight against corruption, ensure a secured nation where people's lives and property are safe and a clear electoral process that ensures our votes count at any election. The time to act is now.

Occupy Nigeria? We the people shall be the one to be forever occupied if not thoroughly and properly handled.

GEJ might well as have donated 100ltrs of PMS to each Nigerian to help cushion the effect of the subsidy removal. He should do that every fortnight. How about that. He's obviously clueless, I even get sense pass am!

Anonymous said...

where are we 4rm? Where are we? and where are we goin in thes contry???

Tunmama said...

Meanwhile I heard the buses are even the remnants from his campaign sef. If not how did he get dem so soon? And how do u 'order' 1600 buses and only 1,100 are delivered. He must really think we are mad. Mad man.

Anonymous said...

This guy is really an Idiot...

Anonymous said...

Thank you Linda Oh. Ask the guy how the buses will help the country. Which road are they going to drive the buses? Foolish politicians set your priorities right and not on frivolous expenses that have no backup or maintenance strategy in place. You think this contract will blind Nigerians while you steal from the back abi. We are not fools oh. Any Nigerian that thinks this is a step in development lacks common sense.

Anonymous said...

We nigerians shld be crful how we talk and abuse our leaders. Even if we think they dnt perform that does not giv us the right to verbally abuse them (or other fellow citizens)

Again, we should focus our protest on how the subsidy fund will be used. Removing the subsidy is not the prblm but judicious use of the money. lol.

Bazo said...

I'm actually glad this is happening. I begged pple not to vote for PDP, but they did not listen. They claimed they were voting for 'the man, not the party'. That statement was as dumb as 'the man' they voted for. The funny thing is now they are all attacking the 'the man, not the party'.

Since when did not growing up with shoes become a criteria for good leadership?

All this talk of buses, is that the real issue? Are the buses going to be free? What of electricity? Or is he gonna share generators too?

All this talk about ill timing, in my opinion is bullsh*t. Why do we have to carry the pains of the failure of government? Why don't they fix our refineries and then there will be no need for subsidy? Why do we always have to be made to suffer, all in the name of 'necessary measures'? Meanwhile the mumu and his deputy spend billions in their kitchens.

Abeggi.. Make we hear word!!

Ayo said...

Oooohhhhhhh, what is all this now? firstly 500 buses have gone AWOL, secondly this computes to about 30 buses per state( abi na only for Abuja dem increase fuel?) In Alimosho local govt in Lagos state 30 buses no go reach ooooo talk less the whole of Lagos. Oga Jona, abeg make we hear word jooo. Yeye Man! I have promised to stop responding to Mr & Mrs Anonymous and all their family,(sons, daughters, in-laws et al)but Mr anonymous @7.29 you are spot on, couldn't agree with you more.

kcee said...

People are complaining that 1600 buses are not enough and now am seeing 1,100. What happened to the remaining 500 buses?

Anonymous said...

For Christ's sake nigerians have some RESPECT for the man elected as our leader. Because we are angry does not mean we shud lose all decorum and begin to address him as a tortoise, idiot , goat and sorts of vulgar language. If not for anything else he is a father and a husband with grey hair on his head and is just trying to do what he sees best for his people in the long run.

kay9 said...

I hate calling names, but GEJ's really showing how empty-headed he is.

Just heard over the news that the emergency NASS sitting today voted against removing the subsidy for now.

#occupynigeria.

I have observed that most
commentors on this blog are stark illiterates, the buses are to ease up things for the poorest folks who solely depend on public transportation and not people like you who are well off enough to buy a car or even sit in front of a computer!1100 buses through out the 36 states shuld be 30 buses for each state, thats a good start.

There is no such thing as
'free lunch',if y'all want a better Nigeria, then the citizens should be prepared to suffer a little to get there.

Anonymous said...

Anyway, hope the bus fare will be subsidised???

HAYDEN, SHUT UP!!!!!!
I am sure you are typing from the comfort of a home in the western world where you enjoy consistent electricity. Alot of Nigerians depend on fuel for their generators. How do you want them to cope? Do you know that it was a 200% increase in fuel all at once? Where else in the world is it done that way?

Even in America, the government keeps extending unemployment insurance due to the large number of people who are currently unemployed. Nigerians cannot boast of uninterrupted power supply, good infrastructure, good healthcare system, NOTHING! For how long will we keep up like this?

You probably work for the government or have relatives who are politicians for you to be so insensitive to the sufferings of the masses! Shame on you and your wicked insensitive soul!

I am proud to say i am from bayelsa but i didn't vote for Jonathan last year. When he was governor here he did nothing, so i never trusted him to b able to do any of those things he promised. Well i guess this is just the beginning. He doesn't want to be a messiah but he wants to join our past leaders that looted us.

What do you think? A man whose feeding allowance is =N=1bn per annum cannot be thinking right. Someone whose brain has been cushioned with food? This man is a mega fool. I thought he said the buses were 1600 or does he think that we have forgotten? Those buses should be sent to Bayelsa to move his people around bcos I have no clue how that number of buses will cater for all Nigerians. Jonathan should resign in his own interest or else God will settle our case the way he settled us with Sani Abacha. We cannot be stopped. GEJ be warned - a foolish man cannot rule Nigeria, not after you have shown us how foolish, directionless and senseless you are. He even had to do the commissioning on a sunday. GEJ is like a blind man moving without a guide.

MY VIEW said...

Now I recall when CNN anounced that Nigeria borrowed one hundred million dollars from France to import buses. So these are the buses. Another debt!!!!!

Soon someone will sell off all the buses and pocket the money. The problem is with each and everyone of us.It certainly started before Jonathan.Same old, same old politicians...
Removing GEJ from office is not the answer.PDP is not the problem. Other parties are not better. They are still made up of the same corrupt Nigerians. Even if GEJ has good intensions, how about the person that will manage these buses. How much money will he return to the government? If he spends two hundred naira on gas, he will report five million. If he spends hundred naira on repairs, he will collect one hundred million. GREED!!!!

on a lighter note, i think its a bit funny that they even had time for a rope cutting ceremony. now that was amusing. the ish here is that the buses can only do so much, i hope they have other plans other than just these buses. what about power supply which the fuel has also been used for? will he give us generators too or fuel voucher? all i ask is for the government to provide constant power and then they can do whatever, trust me, nigerians will complain much less

Anonymous said...

Will the buses pay for food in my house or pay for my children's increased school fees? Insensitive liars in govt.

Anonymous said...

If this govt can provide 24 hours uninterrupted power supply, it will ease a lot of pain. There will be no need to fuel our generators and it will also reduce the operational costs of most businesses. That will be a step in the right direction instead of this joke of 1,000 buses.

Sharing this buses is just too simple and straight forward. No argument!!!

774 Local Governments = 774 buses
Six area Councils (Abuja)= 6 buses
36 States+FCT = 37*8 buses
6 Geopolitical zones = 6*4 buses
TOTAL = 1,100 buses
