See photos of tubers of yam being packaged for exportation

Minister of Agriculture, Audu Ogbeh, recently disclosed that Nigeria will begin to export Yam to other parts of the world beginning from today June 29th. According to Ogbeh, this will serve as possible means of economic diversification and also as a way of generating foreign exchange.

These photos show some Tubers of yams being packaged ahead of their exportation to countries where they are needed.

exporting when we don't even have enough to go around that's why the price of yam has become so overpriced in our today market, there should be some sought of sufficient quantity for us before we start thinking about exporting to other countries

It's a good thing.. But an average man would think twice before buying tubers of yam cos of the price not to talk of the poor. Yam is know considers to be food of the rich! God help us in this nation.

It's a good Idea but considering the cost of yam now in our country I don't think it will help us. We don't have enough and we have packaged some for exportation. That means the one we have been buying at 300 naira will now be sold 450 or 500 naira to us now. Because we don't have enough. This can even cause an increase in bag of rice that we have been expecting to fall as we were told. Pls we should look into this again before carrying out the plans.

Hope there will be consistency and continuity.... Step in d right direction

Bravo👏 That's a good innovation. I guess we are tired of importation alone. It's high time we started exportation too, even more.

Hypocrisy is when yam is insufficient for Nigerians yet the Ogbe wanna start importing yams

God is a Good God. it would had been better for the Nation to look within her people if it is citizen focus, most people can not afford the cost of yam, and do not know where the next meal is coming from, the rulers of Nigeria are far from the people.

Anonymous said...

Nice one well done sir...

Aand then if course those of us here won't have yam to eat anymore. It will become unbelievably expensive, as a result, sweet potato has tripped in price. The question is, do we have enough yam to go round the citizens of this country before trying to feed other countries. God help us o

The fact that the average price of a tuber of yam in Nigeria is N1000 suggests that we do not have adequate supply. Hope the export will be managed so that we don't end up buying it N5000 soon

Oh lawd, what have we done to this APC people. You can't even buy yam in the market as it stands now yet this old is exporting the small one we all suppose to manage.

Rural Yam Farmers wil be making good money, for those of you complaining abt d increase in price make una go use una backyard plant yam n stop making noise,

Anonymous said...

we dont have enough to eat, yet they are exporting. i have bought yam just once this year because of it's high cost. A medium tuber of yam at my area goes for 700 naira. Same with beans. They xport beans to neighboring countries while we languish in want. We do not have enough to eat, yet they are exporting. What a strange way to do things!

Tell them. We buy one yam in London for £5
