Press Release: Senate is Solidly Behind Senate President, Bukola Saraki

Press statement signed by Sen. Ibrahim Abdullahi Danbaba on behalf of the Eighth Senate.
After majority of us, Senators of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, witnessed the appearance of our President, Senator Abubakar Bukola Saraki at the Code of Conduct Tribunal this morning, we are happy that he appeared at the Tribunal after availing himself of the opportunity to defend his Fundamental Human Rights. We also want to state here, on behalf of our colleagues, that the Senate remains solidly behind Senator Saraki and we express our unalloyed support for his leadership.
We reiterate the fact that he is our choice for the post of Senate President and no politically motivated, mischievous and vindictive trial will change our opinion of him.

By his appearance at the Tribunal, he has demonstrated his firm belief in the rule of law and his respect for our judicial process. We join Dr. Saraki in affirming our commitment to rule of law, constitutionalism and democracy. We only hope the other arms of government will ensure that due processes and procedures are followed in this trial and on all other issues.

The Eighth Senate restates its commitment to the programmes and policies of the Buhari administration. It is our belief that at the end of this trial, our democracy, Nigerians and the people will end up as the beneficiaries. May God bless our country, Nigeria.

Signed Senator Ibrahim Abdullahi Danbaba On behalf of the Eighth Senate

    1. This guy is an animal. Every time I read your comment here, it's always senseless. After PMB has said he has no hand in Saraki's case, you still come here & abuse him for nothing.
You always call him terrorist but he's conquering the terrorist in 100days that your brother GEJ couldn't conquer in 6yrs.
This is the only govt since 1999 that give the Nigerian people hope.
Saraki should have gone to clear himself since if he has no skeleton in his cupboard. Tinubu has gone before.
We will wait & see how the whole saga play out. Let him be clear of the allegation if his hands are clean.

  12. Their cup of coffee, I don't care the motive behind his trial, all I want to know is that is he is innocent, he should prove it,and if he is guilty let the law take its place.

  32. It's really a shame having idiots as senators. The senate as a law making body needs the public faith in it and should never interfere in the judicial process, the opposite is happening now. 50 senators attending the beginning of a judicial hearing and 80 senators declaring solid support for Saraki means only one thing, intimidation of the judiciary. The Senate has already judged Saraki to be innocent before the trial even begins.

Its about time Nigerians are made aware that the constitution gives them the power to recall such shameful senators under S69 that says.....

A member of the Senate or of the House Representatives may be recalled as such a member if -

    (a) there is presented to the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission a petition in that behalf signed by more than one-half of the persons registered to vote in that member's constituency alleging their loss of confidence in that member; and

  39. They should shut up. How can they blindly support someone when they don't if he is guilty or not. Idiots, instead of doing their work. Didnt Saraki try to get out making an appearance, respect for the rule of law my ass.

  40. It took this idiot Bukola long enough! If you have no fear and your conscience is clear, why would it take you three sittings to attend and defend yourself? You are above the law, abi? Nonsense!

  53. This justify my belief that it will take a real despot to clean up Nigeria. With democracy, people who are meant for the toughest prisons will continue to buy their ways to the palace. I won't blame them but Buhari who is not so hard about his fight against corruption.
