Ambode approves treasury single account for all govt transactions in Lagos state

Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode has approved the operation of a single account in the state effective from September 1. According to a statement issued by the Permanent Secretary /Accountant General of the State, Mrs Abimbola Umar, the State Government took the decision to address the challenges previously faced with the operation of the multiple account system.

Governor Ambode said the operation of a Treasury Single Account (TSA) aside providing transparency and accountability will also encourage tax payers to request for a single account before making their payments.

In addition, all the affected revenue collecting banks have been mandated to immediately close all the existing multiple revenue accounts domiciled in their banks to give room for a single revenue accounting system in line with the Accountability and Transparency Policy of the current administration.
“With this development, it is expected that all parastatals, local governments and establishments will commence the operation of the TSA onSeptember 1, 2015”, the Governor said.

    1. You're forgetting that it was the same JONA & NOI that instituted this Treasury Single Account (TSA) before while in office. Let them keep dealing you 'the-more-you-look, the-less-you-see'

  30. In as much as this is good for easy of accountability, i don't it is the major issue of corruption. Any corrupt government can still withdraw from the account either by issuing fraudulent contracts or any other means. You can have several accounts and restrict power to withdraw from those account and reconcile correctly. Big corporations run several accounts and they maintain them accordingly.

The negatives of this act include
    - only one bank benefits ...killing competition which is very necessary for growth and development. The Beneficiary bank becomes lazy
    - more stress on the masses. The nearest bank branch could be some kilometers away and when you get there you will meet crowed.
    - once there is a problem with the payment system of (eg POS, network issue) that particular bank, everything goes to a halt.

This policy does not fit the modern day demand.
    My thoughts
