President Jonathan meets with EU observers, praised for conceding defeat

President Jonathan had a closed door meeting with members of the European Union Observers group at the presidential villa earlier today. The group, led by Mr Santiago Fassi, praised President Jonathan for conceding defeat after loosing in the 2015 presidential election. The group said Pres. Jonathan is a true symbol of democracy and is worthy of emulation not just by other African leaders but all leaders in the world.

Well how can u reason at this point, your mind and heart is naturally wired to hate, filled with envy and bedeviled with the born to rule mentality! So your comment is not surprising!

    13. @Peero did you notice how many people they had to sacrifice on their birthdays and other days to make that possible? Leave mata abeg.
Now boko haram is quiet because their oga will have to justify the money he spent sponsoring them. Azazi said the truth, Henry Okah said the truth, the Australian journalist said the truth. Even if jonathan strikes a secret deal with Buhari, I hope they don't keep quiet when they investigate and find him guilty.

    14. Please how is this man a hero abeg, wasn't he simply doing what he was really supposed to in a democratic setting?

I'm convinced dat our standard n expectations of our ourselves are so ridiculously low in this country that we are prepared to hero worship someone for simply doing what they should have done in the first place: case in point is d issue of d airport cleaner who found money that didn't belong to her and decided to return it.

Which makes me surprised at Linda cos she vehemently insisted den that d lady was no heroine, that she simply did was what she should have done and as such the hero worship was unecessay.

I agree and since I also see it as exactly the same scenerio, I want to conclude that most of us Nigerians are hypocritical in nature. Or Are people prepared to simply forget the missing 20billion? The subsidy scam? The missing Chibok girls? The fact that the treasury is empty and once again we are up to our throat in debt?, allegations of massive corruption and illegal use of police and army by mama Peace n people within GEJ's cabinet? The fact that trillions of Naira were spent to give us locomotive trains that have been extinct in most part of the world, when in a sane society installing brand new high speed trains cost less than half of d price? the fact that for the past 4 years Tompolo and Asari Dokubo have literally taken over d duty of d navy n in d process have become billionaires at d expense of Nigeria? Or is it the fact that Deziani his alleged mistress has been indicted so many times for corruption but was still kept in office against all voice of reasoning? (I can go on and on)

For all of you who thinks dat GEJ conceeded cos he loves Nigeria and he wants peace, I am sorry for ur naïveté. Have you guys seen what happened to Charles Taylor? what about Simone Gbagbo?. Do u think GEJ will rather hold on to power for a few more years and den have to face the international court n possibly life in prison or gently go home n enjoy his 6 year loot? And suddenly he's everyone's hero and deserves a Noble peace price for simply saving himself and leaving Nigeria in the worst state ever for the next president?

Well I guess GEJ is really the winner in all this...after all this is clearly his greatest achievement cos not only did he manage to save himself, he managed to make everyone forget in an instant why he was voted out in d first place.
#Rantover!... If u like Linda don't allow my comment, na u sabi, I'm just tired of hearing about GEJ being a hero like seriously!

      Delete
    15. So Peero, a president receiving insult from people and not doing anything is now an achievement? What should he have done please? And I guess leaving with all his family intact is supposed to also be an achievement?...hmmm I weep for the Nigerian youth, that's all I can say!

      Delete
    16. @aboki, am not suprised that your hrt is naturally wired to hate and dislike, yes GEJ did the right thing and should be praised for doing it, especially when you know that you can't muster enough courage to do the same thing, GMB has lost a couple of times and he never allowed this nation to know peace, even when he knew that was the right thing to do. GEJ IS AN HONOURABLE MAN, he is a TRUE DEMOCRAT, he may have his flaws but he's my HERO! He let go his own intrest for nigeria to move forward, remember he is still the president for now, so assuming he refuses to accept the election results, his kinsmen we support him and take up arms, and u knw definitely thins nation will be plunged into war, and yet u sit den there and refuse to appreciate him, you're jst the Muslim that you are, a set of people who never sees the good in others except their own, I hope you've seen how we Christians are better off than you? My bible says ''follow peace with all men'' Heb. 12:14.

GEJ is a Great Leader! Always my HERO!

Since we don't hear plane crash or hearing Car accidents like we used to have before and he took good care of this thins. Until they came with bomb. Cos they knew he is not a military man. But God knows him as peaceful man and may God keep protecting him and open his eyes to know he still needed in Nigeria again. I welcome the new president elect.... and I will show him my support and promise to be good example to my followers and my team. Congrat. Mr. Pres. Elect.

  3. GMB has won, we have heard. Change has come,
we agree. The Nigerian Lee Kwan Yew has
arrived. We welcome him. However, we expect
    to see this change PRONTO.
Constant light in four years. WAEC pass rate
should be 90%. In four years. There should be
no more potholes on our roads. In four years.
We shouldn't hear of crime. In four years. There
must be no corruption in ANY sector of our
public/private lives. The Naira should gain
grounds against foreign currency(that one no
favour me but I go still talk am). In four years.
Fuel price should be N16. In four years. All of
these and many more. In four years.
To all those who rained abuses on GEJ and
Patience in the name of campaign, all I ask is, be
as critical of the incoming government as u were
of GEJ's. We will not hear the excuse that
Nigeria's problems did not start with Buhari ooo.
We will not hear that change takes time o. Let
us judge him by the same yardsticks.
At the same time, we have not forgotten all the
promises o. Stipends to the poorest families.
Payment of 'allawee' to unemployed graduates.
Feeding Nigerian students daily. When he made
these promises, he knew about the country's
reserves. He knew that the crude prices were
falling. He said he would do it, and Nigerians
    believed him.
We should watch carefully. How will he
constitute his cabinet? What will his body
language be towards bigwigs in his party that
have been accused of corruption? How exactly
does he intend to "fight corruption?"
Four years is a long time. A lot can be done in
four years, For the sake of our dear country, I
sincerely hope that change has come.

    11. Well said, I can feel ur pain. But let mi b quick to tell u that in as much as ur candidate lost, he is to blame.Do u know how many years he wasted in his 4 years to appease d north to accept him 3 wasted years, when he ought to have closed them out and faced d southwest, South East and south south. He gave d north so much freedom in his administration this freedom worked against him.Sanusi wus used to distabilise Jonathans govt and he achieved dat,Jonathan did not provide cover for his own people in govt he exposed them to d north.Where is late Gen. Azazi who openly said Boko haram wus a machination of d PDP what happened after d comment, d north put pressure on Jonathan he removed him,What happened to Festus Odumegwu who came and told d whole Nigeria d north especially Kano had being enjoying over bloated population figures over d years dat r not true,Kwankwaso and Sanusi called for his head Jonathan obliged them. What happened to Gen Ihejirika when got Boko Haram surrounded had d GSM companies cut of networks in d town and wus on d verge of expunging them? D north started to shout genocide and threaten to take him to ICC for carnage and ethnic violence, Jonathan quickly removed him.Stella Oduah started remodelling d airports with funds gotten from BASA agreements of years back, a fund dat an hausa man in person of Isa Yuguda told d internationals airlines not to pay since we didn't ve a national carrier, Stella came got dis fund and geared it towards remodelling of d airports and building more d 1st of its kind, d north came out and said she did not follow due process then began her ordeal what happened Jonathan removed her.Do u know how many southerners Jonathan sacrificed on d alter of d North just to win their heart? Here is d resultant effect,d composition of his cabinet excluded mainly d yoruba's u had a few yoruba's who lacked administrative capacity to drive his agenda in d southwest.Idiots like Obanikoro became a constant feature in his government, what good can dat idiot bring to d southwest and u tell mi southwest shouldn't align with d north. Its obvious he lost his chance in d southwest, if only he had being fair to all d regions he might ve come back.U talk about abuse, he brought it upon himself to b abused and when it wus time they too started to abuse some1 old enough to b their Father.Who is brain dead now,who is likely to die amongst all of them certainly them out of shock and GMB,they abused a 72 year old man with ease and calm and u expect God to b happy with u, who is likely to b stoned out of Aso rock now, their actions have stoned them out, their words ve stoned them out, so my man no need to urge us to b critical of d new government. Yardua and Jonathan was a democratic error that has caused 8 years of set back.D former wus medically unfit to rule and latter wus docile to,to rule. They both lacked d capacity to rule and dats why dis change came.In all of dis I blame OBJ for giving us two mistakes in Yardua and Jonathan.Dont b critical of d new govt rather support d new govt.In d 60's Awo refused to align with d north, it wus d south east/ south that came together to form a govt. But today it's d Yoruba's and d North. It shows one thing d North in any situation will always prove their importance in d politics of Nigeria. If Jonathan had done well mayb it would ve being d entire South bringing him back to office.

  24. On the night that GEJ gallantly conceded defeat to Buhari, sleep eluded my eyes. I was reflecting on why such a fortune or misfortune should befall such an icon of democratic values and humility. But reading your generous tributes I m sure history shall be immensely generous to him as well. And I hope that a man with such attributes would not be rare in our political space. I spent personal funds mobilizing, organizing, canvassing and debating for President Jonathan not for any personal benefit but cos none possesses his sense of humility. Drawing analogy from the scriptures, though GEJ is an active player in this current political dispensation he is NOT of this dispensation. He is much more advanced. Certainly he lost not because there is a better candidate (he secured more vote spread than Buhari). Nor did he loose on account of incompetence ( he did more for the region that voted against him than any President from that region, Boko Haram is international terrorism). I also believe he did not loose to his adversaries ( Okorocha lost in Imo, Oshio lost in Edo, Amaechi lost in Rivers, Tinubu/Fashola almost lost in Lagos). But he lost to the irreconcilable internal contradictions bw him and his ruling PDP. He lost to the fifth columnists in his party due to his unique type of politics. He sacrificed his ambition on account of that. Otherwise how do you begin to rationalize a situation where the VP/PDP Gov lost in their state, a Party chair/PDP Gov lost in Bauchi, a Senate President/PDP Gov lost in Benue, DG GEJ Campaign/PDP Gov lost in Kogi. Not to mention traitors like Sule Lamido and Babangida Aliyu. Simply put surrounded by wolves of different colors, shapes forms and sizes GEJ decided to "step aside" for the less voracious of them all being Buhari. He did that for our sake and sake of generations to come. May your days be long my C-in-C. May God be with the new President-elect and May God continue to bless us all. Like someone said I am very proud to have supported GEJ and will do it over and over and over again given the same circumstances.

In the past when an aspirants loses its usually very painful to his supporters but in this case I read people's comments on social media and people are writing that they have been crying since he lost, people are so moved to tears when accolades and tributes are being paid to him. Did he do all that was expected of him, no, was his administration corruption free no, but that goes to show that there is just something about this man that Nigerians could not wait to unravel so we could actually see the best of him. 42. I wonder if some folks commenting on here even watch cnn ,aljazeera, arise, bbc and co. If you do , you'll understand the importance of a leader conceding defeat. I'm happy GMB will be the next president in a month . Most leaders around the world don't step down easily , especially from the underdeveloped countries . Do your research before you wonder why he's been praised.

  47. I know the result of the presidential election is no more news but think about this Amazing thing. The 2 major contenders had the following;

    APC:15,424,921
    PDP:12,853,162
Now if you add the 2 set of numbers together, they equal the same thing. I.e
    1+5+4+2+4+9+2+1 =28
    1+2+8+5+3+1+6+2 =28
The date of the election was March 28!
Is it a coincidence? I don't think so, but I believe its "God is At Work!".
Meditate on this as you go about today's activities.

  53. Buhari I don't have issue with him for now he might mean well but my main concern is the evil and corrupt minded people who he thinks that helped him to be on that seat (tinumbu and obasanjo) if only he will stand his ground and keep saying no to corruption then his reign will be Good
