      The reason is that, Ikoyi registry is one of the few recognize from Nigeria internationally cos its federal. You don't find many federal registry around. Pictures proof goes along way in courts.

      Even after church wedding, you still have to legalize it by doing court. It is obvious you aren't married yet.

      What you do in church is celebration of the union. Marriage under the Marriage. Act is with that piece of paper you sign which the Registry gives you.

    Had my white wedding and the church did the rest with Home affairs and I just went and collected the certificate.

      Court makes your marriage legal. It is the one government, foreigners, courts recognizes. A man can marry many wives traditionally....but he's legally wedded court wife is the one who has access to His property esp if he does w/o a will.

    Look at all thes iognorant asking the importance of a legal civic union. That's why your "husbands" travel country to country and marry other women... because you had a big party but no legally binding document to certify your union. That also why you get thrown out by greedy inlaws.. that why when your men travel they leave your ass behind to be brought later...That piece of paper is most important than any party you can have.
