  2. Unbelievable! I guess the photographer preferred to be given "fish" rather than "being taught how to fish". This is the case with the average Nigerian youth. That camera could have changed his life if put to a good use.
Ali Baba himself could have recommended the guy to cover some of his shows armed with the camera. The poor guy sold his destiny for a bowl of soup, (Esau). So sad.

    1. LOL. Na real "K". Ali Baba shouldn't have put up that story the way he did. He volunteered far too much detail. While I agree he did a great act of kindness, the way he put up the story speaks to pride and arrogance like "Look at this idiot that I helped. See what he's done" now.

  24. When purpose is unknown, abuse is inevitable. That man must have come from Ekiti State where they proved to us that some Nigerians can trade or mortgage their future for ten cups of rice.I checked the cost of that camera online and found out that it sells for between USD 1,200-1,600. That is over N240,000. A guy threw such a fortune away for only 20K. Poverty is a bastard!!!!

  39. Now you question if it really helps to help, i keep saying this about some Nigerians. "We are habitually Lazy, always looking for the easy way out". A 7D camera costs nothing less than $1200 approx N200,000 or more. Poverty of the mind is habitual and no sophisticated tools can save a man already infected.

  43. Typical poor man's mentality....
Alibaba wanted to help the man to fish instead of giving the man fish...but poor man was too "poor" to think of his future ....
Sold his future for 20k....that man will remain poor..and well deservedly

Enjoyed the written piece from Alibaba...

  44. If that guy sold a Canon 7D camera for 20k he is not a photographer. An original 7D should not cost less than 300k in the Nigerian market.

    ReplyDelete
  45. A 300k worth of Camera given to you just to help your bloody situation and you sold it for 20k ! That's why some people will ever remain poor ! I can only imagine how pained ali would have felt !

  53. we judge people by the decisions they made.
But we never truly know the options dey had to choose from.
maybe that was sold to save a life. who knows ????????

    ReplyDelete
  54. All this being said, did anyone think that the camera may have been stolen from the guy and sold to Alibabas contact? It is unfair and foolish to throw judgment around when all you have is one sided information. Generally speaking and not necessarily in reference to this, if you choose to do good, do good...do good because you chose to and expect an eternal reward and not because of a human compliment or thanksgiving...only that we should know who we do good to that they would use the good for good and not for evil. But there is a limit to what we can know or understand. So just do good!!!

Favour will be far away from Him. It happen to me, mine was a brand new HP laptop. and person in question when I asked told me thaty he can buy even 20 of that laptop if he wants. My prayer for him is always Proverb 17vs 13. because I use my sweat to buy the laptop. That is human beings for us. So be careful who to help.

Am a Comedian & I know Alibaba personally, he does good like no man's business but its so unfortunate that "Poverty is a thing of the mind" and I also tell people that "God cannot bless you beyond the knowledge you have for prosperity". Today happens to be Alibaba's birthday. I call him The King Himself, Happy birthday to a father & a mentor, God will continue to make your life beautiful. I celebrate you sir

  69. Circumstances might have driven the guy to sell the camera..Shit happens, Nigerians are always quick to judge people..The world isnt black and white...and why is Alibaba telling us this story? It is petty and unnecessary.

    ReplyDelete
  70. So pray tell.
There was no need for this old man to pen this stupid story. Ali Baba is apt at displaying his very humble beginnings. And what the hell kind of question is 'how is your camera?' If the guy had lied and said it was stolen, le old comedian would still be gauche to talk about it because our society does not support a straight path. It's interesting the consensual remarks this ill advised prose has generated on various arenas. Stories about helping friends and family and not being able to control how they use that help.
