The deplorable state of our Nigerian Universities in photos

Despite being the giant of Africa and being the most populous nation in the African continent, no Nigerian university is listed in the top 1000 best schools in the world. That is because our education system is a mess. The deplorable infrastructures in some of our schools have been captured in photos. Unbelievable! Please read the photo captions in green. See more photos after the cut...

  35. In a country where senators and other top government officials earn huge sums.
Would have been very understandable if Nigeria was a poor country,a nation where education gets the least percentage in its annual budget.
The deplorable state of universities in Nigeria is a result of years of bad governance, its not something that started in GEJ's administeation but it would mean so much if a lot changed for the better in his time.

  40. The pictures in this post is just so heartbreaking, deplorable and quite discouraging to think of having one's university education in Nigeria. Worst still is the very fact that most of the affected schools are federal govt. owned universities. How can we expected anything resourceful when you churn out 'graduates' yearly from these depicted mess.

    ReplyDelete
  41. i wuld advice the vice chancellors of these universities to go and ask DR MRS P.A IDOGHO(rector of auchi polytechnic auchi) to teach them how to make an institution look woolalascious.linda abeg post my comment.TANK U

  62. Anyone not I support of ASUU doesn't love this country. Apart from dilapidated toilet and hostel facilities, how do you expect to turn out graduates who are knowledgeable in thier field of study without adequate learning facilities.

Whereas we have billions of Anita been siphoned by both executive and legislative arms of government, each feeding fat on tax payers money, yet 25percent of the national budget cannot be given to education.

Square peg in a round hole, we have misfits as leaders.

  75. Thanks for these pictures. I hope people out there see the state of things in Nigerian schools. some students do not even get hostel accommodation; not because the cant pay but because the available spaces can only serve a fifth of the schools population. I sincerely hope we win with this strike and at least get some improvement.

  82. Make no mistake, the ASUU strike is not about these infrastructures, no. It is about some university bigwigs padding their pockets, it is as simple as that. It is only in Nigeria that people are paid to do nothing and that's what ASUU is fighting for, payment for doing nothing. It is not only the structures that are deplorable, but also the standard of teaching and education too. The onus falls on the students to demand for better structures and teaching standards, not ASUU, because we know the sonsofabitches are just after their own interest! But the bad thing is that schools have castrated student unions better known as SUG, so as not to give them trouble. They influence voting so that easy candidates are elected who they can manipulate to their own will. Students in Nigeria should not manage, no! It is their duty to demand the best with the exorbitant fees they pay nowadays, ASUU has no right to strike because of facilities, their job is to teach and impact knowledge, it is the emasculated students who should pick up the gauntlet for this fight. These picture are no basis for this strike, none at all!!!

    ReplyDelete
  115. Come to think of it, Nigerians need to be mobilised for a serious mass action against their ruling class. This is a task I expected the so called Nigerian entertainment industry to unite and lead but rather they are busy buying expensive cars and choice properties . Even the pastors have let Nigerians down. The greatest prayer anyone can say for Nigeria is to move everyone to the street and begin a serious revolution

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  136. Oh my God, I can't believe this is the state of our citadels of learning in a country that is blessed so much and pumps well over 2 million barrels of oil on daily basis. this is beyond me, there couldn't have been a reason for such crass neglect and appalling decay. Can I say I was lucky enough to have obtained my 1st and 2nd degrees both from UK universities, if at all things like ever existed, it could potentially sack a govt and administrators of these universities would not survive a day more in office. this is absolutely unacceptable. pls people lets rise against this bastardisation of our great country by wicked and greedy leadership

    ReplyDelete
  137. This is really sad!! and our so called leaders are stashing away millions of dollars for their unborn children who will never attend these universities.... That is why they don't care if lecturers go on strike for 2 years

    ReplyDelete

  142. STOP BEATING THE UNIVERSITIES; it’s a dysfunctional country with its issues affecting all systems in Nigeria. The state of our universities is a true reflection of the state of Nigeria. So imagine the type of planes you fly in or the type of meat you eat, when you see these pictures. Moral of the story is dysfunctional country = dysfunctional systems!

    ReplyDelete
  143. WAT A SHAME.DIS IS SO EMBARRASSING KAI.

    ReplyDelete
  144. Hey!!!!!!! very shameful,giant of Africa indeed.pitiable.

    ReplyDelete
  145. This is really sad, I hear stories of how students were fed with one whole chicken for a meal back in the days but it is sad that those who enjoyed such privileges are the ones pulling down the pillars of sound education in our country. We are in a country where you lecturers will not let you graduate with a first class because they graduated with a ridiculous class of degree. And even if this ASUU-FG 'war' ends , are we sure that the money demanded, if granted, will be used for the good of these institutions? May God save Nigeria, we are blessed already. What we need is redemption from corruption and other vices.

    ReplyDelete
  146. Awwww,this is very bad

  147. Greatest Nigerian Students!!!
    Greatest Futoites,

if you see the road linking FUTO and Poly Nekede (two federal schools) you will cry for our dear country.

these politicians send their dumbass kids abroad and intelligent minds fade in these stress filled schools

    Shaaaa e go better!!

Not one person looks back at the educational institution they came from. At least mayb if one person does that the other may follow suit. i‎ weep for this country. i‎ pray that as the youth are getting on, we can stand up and chase out bad leaders for a better tomorrow... 161. This is scary. Linda, you really should do more posts like this one. You have a very wide fan base and the more you expose the ills in the society on a world wide web, the more the people in charge will buckle up. Keep it up and remain blessed.

  166. Speechless!!

Thank God for the internet so that this can be shown to the world. Nigerian government is worse than shit in a toilet, useless, not even fitting to used as fertilizer. Yet these bitches wanted to improve the airport. Who gives a flying f*ck about the airport when you are training people in these deplorable conditions. Hospital are in shit levels, junior doctors not getitng paid, everybody has to leave the country for major surgery, kids are living like wild beast, no good infrastructure of anything and these mofos want to dress up and act like decent, accomplished ppl when they have people surviving under these inhumane conditions.

Let the young people with a vision, talent and drive rise up and run these old useless farts out of public service and direct the country in a new path. Young people with talent, drive, education, and valuable skills need to start speaking loud and clear and bond together to reclaim the country so that the future generations can have a better existence.

  169. ''Pity the nation whose people are sheeps and whose shepherds mislead them.
Pity the nation whose leaders are liars, whose sages are silenced.
Pity the nation that raises not its voice, except to praise conquerors and acclaim the bully as hero and aims to rule the world by force and by torture.
Pity the nation that knows no other language but its own and no other culture but its own.
Pity the nation whose breath is money and sleeps the sleep to the well fed.
Pity the nation-oh pity the people who allow their rights to erode and their freedom to be washed away.
My country, tears of thee, sweet land of liberty''.

  170. Why is it that all the pictures of universities shown here, none is from the south west, am not surprice, they value education more than any other region, u can never see a university in the southwestern zone that will be this bad, am an IGBO guy, but we can't shy away from the truth.
