Sports Illustrated Model, Adaora Akubilo, Responds To Her Critics

You all saw her Sports Illustrated photos some weeks back and some of you criticized her. The sexy Nigerian-American Sports Illustrated model has responded to the criticisms. She tells Culture Shock Nigerians:
Well, what I would say about the blog posts and the nudity thing, my father is very proud of me, first and foremost. I am a well rounded individual. I did everything he wanted me to do, and kind of like what I wanted to do, like going to school, getting my education, and this is just something that I’m adding to my resume and my life achievements and accomplishments so he’s very proud of me.  And as long as I’m happy that’s all he cares about.
[My photos] are done in a tasteful way.  I’m not out there, boobs all out {laughs}. Like I’m being a little coy with it, you know, I’m kind of like hiding it a little bit.  I’m hiding my boob, it’s not all out there like hello {laughs]. No one knows what my nipples look like.
It’s not all out there.  It’s done in a very tasteful way and I would never compromise myself.  If I wasn’t comfortable doing it and if I felt like I was in some way doing something that would embarrass my family, I would never do anything that would embarrass my family or myself for that matter.

So nudity done in a tasteful way, and if you’re comfortable, God created these bodies of ours, you know, I’m just celebrating it.  And getting paid at the same time so that’s a good thing.

    1. I respect Adaora for even caring enough to take time to address what I believe to be ignorant critisms. Honey most of the people you are addressing are too unenlightened to realize its actually an achievement for Nigeria as whole to have a one of us grace the front page of "sports illustrated"..an honor only bestowed on the best of the best in the industry. Rock on sis....much..much love

Because morals is an individual and societal thing, some people have 'high' morals, some people don't, some societies have higher morals than others and everyone see's it right in their perception.

  32. These are the kind of things people say when they have lost the kind of values we once appreciated so highly in Nigeria. Exposing your precious body to the whole world...its not until we see your nipples dear we have seen enough our minds can conjure the rest. Instead of you being a good role model and mentor to the younger ones. What examples are we showing please!!Besides the internet and blogs like Linda Ikeji are open to all age brackets. Im sad like most things in Nigeria we have thrown all caution to the wind because we want a bowl of porridge we are throwing our Godly and good values out. Tomorrow you will wonder why you arent respected by men and others. Mind you people will use you and take your money but alot will not tell you the truth if they realise your value system is warped. Its bad examples like you that are leading our daughters in making bad choices because "they want to make money" .Dear Ada this way you have chosen because of finance isnt the best my dear. 103. Just listen to the stupid interview. Must people fully see your nipples before they know how there look like? The whole stuff is just for money nothing else. People that paid you know whose agent they are. Your father supported you because money was involved. Can you go nude if you are not paid? Stop defending yourself you are who you present yourself to the world. Remember, your father may support you one day to act porn when the offer is huge.

    [edit]Career

I’ve been modeling for about 15 years. I’m a pro (laughs). I’ve been 5’ 9” since I was 12 years old, so I’ve had friends and family suggest that I get into modeling. But I’m pretty practical and I didn’t think, at the time, that modeling was a practical enough career.
    [edit]Modeling
Fraser started modeling late for when thinking of terms of models. She was discovered by a modeling scout at 25 while working as waitress as Flat Iron District New York restaurant Lola. She stayed with the small agency for six months and her first modeling job was for Seventeen Magazine. She later signed to Ford Models and she walked the Chanel runway in Paris Since then, she has appeared in numerous commercial and print campaigns including Essence (magazine) [7] ,Target, Gain, Honey Nut Cheerios, Gemey. Her fashion campaigns include Alfani shoes, Gap, Tommy Hilfiger, J.Crew, Talbots, Liz Claiborne, Old Navy maternity [8].
Fraser is most known for being the face of Maybeline cosmetics [9] [10] . She was the first African-American model to represent the brand. Additionally, she is the longest serving spokesperson for any cosmetics company [11] from 2001-2007.
Fraser has worked Chloe, Chanel, Vera Wang, John Galliano, Nicole Miller, Vivienne Westwood and Emmanuel Ungaro runway shows [12]. Famous photographer Mario Testino has photographed Fraser for US Vogue. Also, she has graced the cover of Flare in 1999.
