Dear Men; please read this!

From a male LIB reader
Dear Linda, in response to the blog post with this title' Dear LIB readers: is this normal? (See it HERE) which you posted on Friday, please post this...it might help someone...thanks sis!
My name is Dayo. I’m a typical Nigerian guy and I cherish my Fridays a lot; I get to hang out with the sickest guys every Friday night and secondly, It’s another escape from my nagging and boring wife. I get confused sometimes on whether she’s my mother or my wife. Don’t get it twisted; I love her pieces. It just gets complicated; like I wish we never got married…marriage has turned her into something that doesn’t amuse me. I wish she was still the adventurous, charming, high spirited lady I dated for five years.

A lot of people say its unethical for married guys to be found in a club, but I wish everyone won’t be too quick to judge and understand that people look for fun to run away from their problems; they just want to breathe, like me.

I forgot to say that I work in Guarantee Trust Bank along Lekki, I love my job and my job loves me, maybe its because I’m the senior banking officer. Lol. This particular morning, a lady breezed into my office. My heart raced faster because I had not sighted anything this beautiful in a long while. She wasn’t the typical slender Barbie, in fact, she was a bit chubby but her smile, cuteness and…I was tripped.

“Hi Good morning! Your ATM has swallowed my card!” She laughed, unlike a typical customer that would ram you.

I just tried to form Boss laughter…

“Good morning, You know what? I’d personally make sure they get it out for you, but not today. Can you wait till Monday?” I smiled

“GTB shaaa! OK, can I just drop my number so you could call me up or just text when its ready so I don’t come twice? Please? My name is Nancy” She blinked her eyes in a funny way.

“Sure” I smiled

We exchanged numbers. What a lucky Friday!

So it was 10:00pm and I headed to the club…as usual my friends were chilling for me. My wife had called a couple of times, I just ignored it. She knows I’m never home Friday nights.

“Look at you!” I heard someone say. I raised my head and it was the ATM lady-Nancy.

“Wow, look at you too!” I was surprised to see her but I was happy I didn’t have to wait till Monday to see her again.

“Happy Friday!” She screamed because of the noise, “Wanna dance?”

I didn’t even have the chance to answer, she already pulled me to dance floor. I really suck at dancing but she helped me; she was a great dancer! I had fun! At some point we decided to go to a private area and we talked, ranging from work, business to personal life. I tried to hide my ring as much as possible, I certainly didn’t want this to end now.

“You are a really wonderful lady. You are so interesting…any guy would want to be with you all day” I said.

“I wasn’t always like this but I have learned the hard way that life is just too short to be sad” she sang

Then her phone rang…

“Hey baby! Yeah I’m at the private lounge, I’d like you to meet someone…alright boo” she talked excitedly as usual.

I was in shock until this tall handsome man walks up to her and kisses her.
“You were late. Meet Dayo; I met him this morning, he’s helping with your ATM I told you got swallowed and Dayo this is my B to the O-O,” she laughed “Meet my husband Kolade, we only come here to dance every
fortnight Friday; away from work, stress and kids.”

“Wow, a pleasure” I managed to shake him

Then she stood now excitedly holding her husband’s arms.

“Why don’t we invite Dayo for Mimi’s 16th birthday tomorrow?” Her husband said

They have kids too? How long have they been married and they look like a couple just dating!

“Silly me, please come for my second daughter’s 16th tomorrow. It would be an honor” She brought out an I.V from her purse.

I began to feel so ashamed of myself…this was another guy like me, getting it right with one woman.

I collected the I.V and promised to be there.

“See you tomorrow! Have you had something to eat Kolade?” she talked and dragged her husband along.

They left and I kept staring at the thin air like I had seen a ghost.
They come just to dance together every fortnight Fridays? Why didn’t I think of that! Temi loves to dance…she also likes long walks, she loves to talk…she loves jazz music, there’s this vivid picture I have
of me putting her hand on my chest when we danced at a jazz club on our first year anniversary…I found myself typing all the things I knew Temi loved to do on my I pad and I realized I had denied her of all…I
had made her the old woman she acts.

What the hell was I doing here! I didn’t even tell my friends goodbye, I walked out of the club into my Jaguar. Temi’s call came through and I picked at first ring.

“Temi?” My heart raced

“I know you are not coming home…”

“I am, stay up so we can gist. Been a while” I decided to do everything on that list and to even add many more for the rest of my lifetime with her.

“Are you alright?” She was shocked I suppose

“And I’d like us to go for a birthday party tomorrow. I want you to
meet this amazing couple”

“You sound different Dayo”
“Maybe I’m different”

“Don’t say it! don’t say it! when you come we will gist very well” she laughed

She laughed!!! In just that laughter that I hadn’t heard in a while, she sounded like the lady I married six years ago…

  27. okay, i dont get! interestin story, yeah! but wats the moral? go clubbin wit my husband every friday nite? seriously??? its okay to ave fun and not become a dry couple but i really dont see the point here, wat happens when the kids start comin and he leaves you alone with the cryin baby and goes clubbin? abeg abeg! wen u kno ur married, ur married, stop leavin like u are single, ave fun like matured married couples and the respect and love u ave for each other will keep growing, i seriously dont think clubbin every friday nite helps any relationship! there are healthier ways to maintain a relationship...

    ReplyDelete

    1. U leave d main point n pick on d example, moral is just to do what makes u n ur spouse happy... life's too short to create rules dat will diminish d happiness of ur home.

      Delete
    2. Mumu, clubbing is just used here as an analogy! Read between the lines! There are many other things that you can do and enjoy as a couple. The key is to do things u both enjoy together. Shebi he told her to stay up so that they can gist. He did not tell her to come and meet him in the club. Find ways to have fun with your man!!

      Delete
    3. And the writer never said to go clubbing every weekend. Did you not read where he made a note of all the favorite things his wife likes to do? In a bid to comment you just write rubbish!

      Delete
    4. Lola A, stop taking the story literally and parochially. The message is simple, if your spouse likes something, try involving yourself in it (and vice versa) just for that 'togetherness' feeling. Remember that girl he fell in love with? That laughing, fun loving adventurous girl? You were that girl before you knew him! You can still be that girl, just focus a percentage of your time on what makes you happy instead of what he does to make you unhappy.

12 Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him.

13 When tempted, no one should say, "God is tempting me." For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone; 14 but each one is tempted when, by his own evil desire, he is dragged away and enticed. 15 Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death.

I am a married chic as well and you were about to get on my bad santa list but for the good ending. Thanks for sharing this story although you should not have given TMI. Next time I am in Lagos, I will go to your GTB branch and ask for the dude with the Jaguar. Unless all of una get Jaguar. Now I am curoious to see who you are - not get close or talk to you, hehe. That was your chance encounter with God before you derailed. As weird as that might seem, he is the restorer who is omnipresent. He is in the clubs, on the streets, wherever. That night, the lady would not have had a difficult time bedding you if that is what she wanted. But God used her to open your mind first, then he showed you what you were missing. If someone had come to you point blank and said dude, why not bring iyawo to jazz club, you would have replied "impossicant".

Glad to hear you are on the way to an exciting future.

He is not any fun anymore. I am still as HOT as ever. I still get stares and passes from singles who think I am 28 instead of 42. My husband just seems to be in early senesence!

  75. First of all, this is obviously a work of fiction.

That being said, I think its a nice piece and I'm amazed @ how many people are focusing on the mundane and irrelevant parts of the story (the car, money, lifestyle, etc) and are totally missing the moral therein!

For those that can't get past the irrelevant, lemme spell it out for u:

All this guy is tryna say is that rather than focus on the negative things about ur significant other, try to improve ur relationship by focusing on creating quality time together. It might be going clubbing together (as in the story) or it might be other stuff like going swimming, eating at a fancy restuarant once a week or once a month or however regularly it suits u. It may even be the 2 of u going go-carting every other weekend! Whatever it is, sha create time to HAVE FUN TOGETHER!

And for those who say a responsible woman should not go clubbing, I say ur in great need of enlightenment. What exaclty does it mean to be responsible? If u pay ur bills, provide for ur kids, pay ur tax, live a good and healthy life, does the fact that ur like to dance to loud music make you irresponsible??Anyways, that's a topic for another day.

I've always enjoyed clubbing tho admittedly I dont club as much as i used to. My wife on the other hand is a home body. However every once in a while she gets all "sexied" up and we hit the club for a night of dancing and drinking and laughing and then we go home and have mind blowing sex! I also sit at home and watch desperate housewives and jerseylicious and do the dishes with her some times cos I know that's what she loves.

Sure we have our fair share of fights, but after all's said and done, I couldn't ask for a more wonderful woman!

The point is, we take the time to play, to have fun the way that suits us! This is what has made us so close...

This is the moral of this story and its a damned good one!

All i see are people criticizing the story and being negative. And u are all cussing Patient Jonathan, when u r all in the same category. As for me I will show this to my husband, my brothers, uncles, father, male cousins and every male i know to read this piece very educating.

  91. I'm convinced the story is redirecting our mind to the essence of marriage. Women shld not be relegated to the background. Couples shld always remember those things in them that made their spouses see them as the best, and try as much as possible to maintain them. Those are the marriage spices.

  94. Linda this is a fictional story. I read it on the blog where the writer originally posted it. If i find the link i'll send it to you. It's a good story but it is pure fiction!

  95. I met my hubby in a rocking night club. true story. we are both decent, respectable, professional people who love music and love to dance. for those going on about "will you tell your mum you met your wife at a nightclub?" Are you serious? Some people need to get a life. The "story" in any case is a work of fiction, but it just goes to show how SHALLOW the majority of readers of this blog are. SMH! This is why our nation is not progressing. BACKWARD, SHALLOW people who can never see the forest for the trees (i doubt many will even understand this metaphor!) KMT!

  96. The essence of this article is not whether it happened or not, it is a wake up call to mostly Nigerian men who think that their wives are just there at homme waiting for them to come back home from their escapades.

The article is therapuetical, makes a lot of sense and it sure dose happen everyday here in Nigeria. learn how to be friends and partners with your wives and the marriage life will be good to you. You are married and not buried for crying out loud.

That shit you are looking for out there are all the same just different face on it. I know cos I've been married for 25 yrs and loving it. By the way, am a guy.

  103. I am not surprised @ the naysayers who come to LIB to spew thrash from the inner recess of their negative minds. When you read a story don't just look @ it on the surface; even Jesus christ used parables to get his message accross. If the stories in the parables are not inspiring, I am not sure we would feel great when we do good. In other words, learn from the story and make some personal changes to spice up your relationship instead of apportioning blames. Go see a movie, workout together, go to the market for groceries, buy a computer game( I want to try this one), do something positive and fun with ur spouse, so that when the hard times come( they def will), you will always rememeber how much you guys love each other and how much fun you have 2geda, and perhaps you won't worry much about the small things. May we find the one that's meant for us in Jesus name. My boys's are finding love and getting married, I am praying for mine; pray for yours. Love is a beautiful thing!!

  104. Great story, fiction or fact, doesnt really matter but the lesson does.Dont turn your wife to a boring, old woman who will definetely nag.Do those things you did while you were dating, whatever you do,make sure you are both having fun cos life is too short to live it out with an unhappy spouse.

  121. I did not want to blame or condemned anybody supporting clubbing or whatever. As 4 me i support and do encourage any man to take care of his wife, but if u re really the night crawler or the frequent clubing type,U ll understand what it meant clubing most expectially for ladies,No gain(talking frm experienced). To cap it all, stick with ur man and let him knw what you want.Dont hide ur feelings.

  122. Why r peole so negative tho, whether u read it on fb or some1 fowarded to your bb doesnt change the moral or heart of the story and no one is saying go clubbing with ur husband.

he says "i have made her the old woman she acts..." interpretation?...whether ur a man or woman, before blaming ur wife of naggin or ur husband of keeping late nights make sure ur not the one that turned them into what they have become. Shikena.

Linda nwaanyi oma, daalu so, the story has given me alot to think about. God bless you.

  124. Nigerians and their sanctimonious attitude??? I don't even get it. Personally, I don't go clubbing because it is usually rough but then I DO NOT judge people who go clubbing. My not going doesn't make me a saint. Pick the lessons and move the fuck on! The message is very very clear. Let us stop this our holier than thou attitude when many of us even have skeletons in our cupboards! Sigh

  125. I wonder the last time I read a story of what a woman needs to do to make her husband or boyfriend become happy again! Crap! I am sick of this rubbish of 'the man not doing something right' and as such the relationship goes sour! Rubbish! We all are at fault for bad relationships! Man love your wife, woman respect your husband! If we all obeyed, we would not have any need for the fictitious story above!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  126. WOW! I see more that the problem with Nigeria is not just the government BUT THE PEOPLE AND THE WAY THEY THINK! Haba! Does one have to do Literature in english b4 understanding the concept of underlying meanings in stories??? Why won't we remain backward in EVERYTHING? I feel so so sad.

But that said, this story has made me realise what's wrong in my marriage and what I need to do. Tnx Dayo (or whoever you are) :)

  127. wow, linda thanks for posting this story, i really learnt something today, being married doesnt necessarily mean to be bored, make your marriage fun, by being friends, lovers and all you used to be when you where dating.you dont need to necessarily plan to do all the fun stuffs when youre married, start now!!!!!!! thanks a bunch.

  133. A man writing from the States; That doctor that commented (IN UPPERCASE) there is talking reality; real sense. DON'T THE COUPLE HAVE OTHER PASTIMES? CHECK THE STATISTICS OF "MURDERS, drunken driving AND BRAWLS AFTER CLUBBING" even here in the States. Is that what a decent couple (and their kids)want to expose themselves to? Why can't folks be more proactive in good deeds? There are a thousand and one games that couples can go together for Christ's sake! Can guys who have clubbed before educate these folks that are hailing this story on the things that are obtainable in clubs. My good friend will always remember how his life got blown away by drugs from clubbing. Thank God that he is saved in Christ now.

Now to the story it is very inspiring and i think it has passed its message to those that need it. its not saying u necessarily go clubbing with ur husband or wife but just create time for fun and enjoy yourselves.
