A synagogue, mosque and church being built together

Tri-Faith Initiative, a partnership of Christians, Jews and Muslims that aims to foster greater interfaith relations is kicking off a multimillion-dollar effort to bring the three Abrahamic religions onto a single 35-acre campus.

"We thought, let's intentionally choose our neighbors," says Vic Gutman, a spokesman for the Tri-Faith Initiative, which launched five years ago as a grassroots interfaith effort and quickly gained funding and community support among the city's religious leaders. "We want to form a relationship between all Jews, all Muslims and all Christians."

The group, which announced this week that each religious group had closed on land purchase deals for the interfaith campus that total $5 million, will also build a Tri-Faith Center that will have educational and social facilities for use by all the campus' religious groups.*

Man arrested for attempting to strangle his wife because she denied him sex

The police at Ajao Estate division, Lagos State, southwest Nigeria have arrested a businessman, Solomon Iwuchukwu, for allegedly attempting to strangle his pregnant wife, Ifeoma (pictured above), who denied him sex.

The 54-year old Solomon who hails from Mbaise in Imo State told the police at the station that since he returned from abroad, his pregnant wife had refused to have sex with him. He said that she locks her room and always refuse him entry. “And she doesn’t come into my room to sleep, either,” he added.

Ifeoma, 33, is eight months pregnant.

Bangladesh man cuts off wife's fingers because she pursued higher education

Human rights groups in Bangladesh have demanded a severe punishment for the husband of a young woman who allegedly cut off most of her right hand.

Police say Rafiqul Islam, 30, (pictured above) attacked her because she pursued higher education without his permission. They say Mr Islam, a migrant worker, admitted to the crime shortly after returning home from the Gulf.

However there has been no independent confirmation from the suspect that he carried out the attack.
The incident is one of a number of acts of domestic violence targeting educated women in recent months.

Woman who jumped from bridge was missing Nigerian girl, Tosin Oyelowo

The woman who reportedly jumped from the Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge on Friday was a 25-year-old MUSC student, according to police reports and various online articles.

Olutosin "Tosin" Oyelowo, a Nigerian national with roots in Wake Forest, NC, was last seen by motorists and pedestrians leaping from the Bridge, a Mount Pleasant police report states.

Calls reporting the jumping were received around 3:30 p.m. on Friday, according to reports. Police found Oyelowo's purse and driver's license at the summit of the bridge in the area where callers reported seeing her jump.

Boat Mishap Claims Over 30 Passengers in Port-Harcourt

Over 30 passengers of a wooden boat lost their lives after the boat they were traveling in capsized at the Eagle Island in Port-Harcourt last night. Only seven people survived.

The passengers used the water instead of the road to Rumuolumeni before taking taxis to Port-Harcourt

Rivers State Police Public Relations Officer, who confirmed the incident, said seven persons were rescued after the boat mishap, adding that the bodies of the victims certified dead have been deposited at the BMH mortuary.

‘Peeping Tom’ Sent To Prison; For Watching Couple Having Sex

 

According to PM News, a 'peeping Tom', 36yr old Raymond Obi Eze (pictured above) was sent to prison for watching a couple have sex. Raymond hid in the couples bedroom, under their bed, and watched them have sex to 'derive sexual satisfaction'.

He was discovered by the man of the house, who handed him over to the police. Raymond was charged to court on a two-count charge of unlawful entry and attempted murder. He pleaded not guilty to the charges, saying he was only watching the couple have sex and did not attempt to harm them.

He was granted bail in the sum of N100, 000 with two sureties in like sum. When he could not meet the bail conditions, he was ordered to be remanded in prison custody at the Kirikiri Maximum Security Prisons, Apapa, Lagos.

Provocative Virgin Mary Billboard Holding a Pregnancy Test Unveiled

 

A new billboard showing the Virgin Mary holding a 'positive' pregnancy test was recently unveiled by St. Matthews-in-the-City Church in Auckland, New Zealand.

The church says the billboard, called "Mary is in the pink", was meant to "spark thought and conversation. Vicar Glynn Cardy of St. Matthews said the church wanted to focus on what it was like for a real mother with a real child. "It's about a real pregnancy, a real mother and a real child.  It's about real anxiety, courage and hope."

He also said the lack of text on the billboard is intended to provoke thought: "We hope to do so with an image and no words. We invite you to wonder what your caption might be." 

The billboard will stay up until Christmas Day.

Question of the day: Why do rich Nigerians ONLY marry themselves?

Why is it that in Nigeria, the rich people only marry themselves? The Onirus marry the Tinubus. The Odogwus marry the Subomi-Baloguns. The Adenugas marry the Dangotes. The Okoyas marry the Sarakis. The Ojoras marry the Folawiyos. The  Kukus marry the Fowlers. Etc etc...

Everytime you see a society wedding, it's one rich man's son marrying another rich man's daughter. Why can't an Otudeko or an Akiolu marry an Ikeji for instance? LMAO!

No, but seriously, why is it like that in this country? I mean, Prince William married a commoner, so kini big deal?

Nigerian Idol Season 2: Day Two

Saturday December 10, 2011 kick started the regular TV broadcast schedule for the second season of Nigerian Idol. Last week we watched the start of regional auditions with Abuja as our first port of call. Saturday’s show was a continuation of the Abuja auditions.
